The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Macmillan Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Cancer Team, you will play a vital role in providing specialist care to patients with lung cancer.
Job Overview:The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing the information needs of patients, service users, family, and friends, and providing relevant support, information, education, advice, and counselling when necessary. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care for patients referred for specialist care.
Main Duties:- Provide specialist care to patients with lung cancer, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
- Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care for patients referred for specialist care.
- Develop and maintain relationships with patients, families, and carers to provide emotional support and guidance.
- Contribute to the development of practice with a view to promoting person-centred care when caring for individuals with lung cancer.
- Registered Nurse level 1
- Teaching qualification
- Educated to minimum of 1st degree level or equivalent experience
- Post-registration qualification relevant to specialty
- Evidence of continued professional development
- MSc or working towards
- Advanced Communications skills training
- Substantial post-registration experience in lung cancer conditions and treatments
- Previous experience in a post involving clinical and managerial responsibilities
- Knowledge of current advances and pathways of care relevant to specialty
- Proven evidence of improving the patient experience
- Experience of multi-professional working
- Previous experience of research and audit
- Previous experience of working as a clinical nurse specialist
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Excellent communication skills and ability to negotiate and influence
- Skilled in use of computer/keyboard
- Ability to problem solve, prioritise, and to work to deadlines
- Ability to motivate staff and improve individuals and team performance
- Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with multi-professional teams
- Demonstrates evidence of knowledge and ability to undertake change management
- Able to manage stressful situations and challenge decisions to ensure that patient needs are met
