About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our mental health First Response Service as a Tele-coach Practitioner. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a newly commissioned service based in Exeter, providing tele-coaching psychologically informed interventions, support, guidance, and signposting to individuals experiencing mental health crises.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete clinical risk and mental state assessments by telephone, providing short-term psychological interventions for individuals presenting in mental health crisis.
  • Provide validation and de-escalation of crisis, coaching individuals regarding distress tolerance techniques, and promoting emotional regulation interventions.
  • Work with individuals of all ages, including children and young people, adults, and older people, experiencing mental health crises via the telephone.
  • Assess situations, make decisions, coordinate, and organize appropriate responses to meet the needs of individuals in crisis.
Requirements
  • Evidence of working with individuals who have suffered from mental health problems.
  • Ability to study successfully at graduate level or equivalent experience.
  • Qualified to degree level in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, counseling, psychological therapy, or a related health field.
  • Ability to complete Trust Mandatory Courses.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to engage with individuals experiencing complex mental health presentations.
  • Ability to form positive therapeutic relationships with individuals, carers, and other professional bodies.
  • Knowledge of evidenced-based interventions relevant to the clinical service.
  • Understanding of recovery principles in mental health.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1987 and the Mental Capacity Act.
