Job Overview
The role involves the development, upkeep, and enhancement of machinery and procedures linked to manufacturing operations in Portsmouth. This position supports the integration of new products into existing manufacturing workflows and oversees investments in both equipment and processes.

Key Responsibilities
1. Develop and maintain comprehensive production process documentation and ensure safe working practices.
2. Resolve process and product issues to sustain production levels.
3. Conduct diagnostics, including root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective action plans for testing and yield challenges.
4. Identify and execute process enhancements, including the design of jigs, fixtures, and tooling.
5. Manage the implementation of process and product changes.
6. Facilitate the introduction of new products into production, ensuring all associated equipment, tooling, processes, and documentation are in place.
7. Develop and validate new production and testing processes (PFMEA).
8. Explore and investigate emerging technologies.
9. Collaborate with external support companies to enhance equipment and processes.
10. Oversee budgeting, specification, and installation of new machinery.
11. Maintain production equipment and systems.
12. Consider process layout, timing, capacity, and material flow.
13. Integrate quality assurance into the process and implement error-proofing measures wherever feasible.
14. Introduce lean manufacturing principles and initiatives aimed at cost reduction.
15. Ensure environmental health and safety provisions are established for equipment and processes, including conducting risk assessments.
16. Coordinate prototype, pilot, and pre-production builds.
17. Provide training to production staff as necessary.
18. Act as a deputy for team leaders and assist with other projects as needed.

Key Deliverables
- Timely completion of project tasks and milestones (New Products, Engineering Changes, Productivity, etc.).
- Availability of processes and equipment to meet manufacturing demands.
- Accuracy of documentation and ERP systems to facilitate manufacturing in accordance with design specifications.
- Maintain and achieve necessary certifications to industry standards (e.g., AS9100).

Key Metrics
- Projects delivered on time, within scope, and budget.
- Health and Safety metrics including accidents, near misses, and improvement actions.
- Quality metrics such as yield, quality escapes, aging NCRs, and scrap rates.
- Delivery metrics including on-time delivery, past due items, and fulfillment of customer requests.
- Productivity metrics including headcount, sales per head, gross margin per head, productivity projects, cost reduction initiatives, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience with equipment and processes relevant to high-reliability product manufacturing.
- Proven experience in lean operational implementations.
- Project management experience in improvement and capital projects.
- Preferred background in aerospace or defense sectors.
- Significant advantage for candidates with electronics manufacturing experience.
- Strong ability to influence and build cross-functional relationships.
- Confident in presenting to both customers and internal stakeholders.
- High level of organizational and planning skills.

Qualifications
- HND (NVQ Level 4) in Engineering or equivalent industrial experience.
