Band 2/3 Healthcare Assistant Opportunity at Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant to become part of our supportive and collaborative multidisciplinary team. In this role, you will work closely with our skilled nursing and therapy professionals, assisting in the daily care and management of our patients to ensure they receive safe and high-quality nursing support within our Neurological Rehabilitation unit.

We invite candidates to apply for a Band 2 Care Support Worker position. Support and guidance will be provided to help you complete a care certificate, and upon successful completion, there will be an opportunity to advance to a Band 3 Care Support Worker role by fulfilling the required competencies.

For those interested in a Band 3 Care Support Worker role, you will need to present evidence of a care certificate during the interview process. Successful candidates will receive support to complete the necessary competencies associated with this role.

Important Information

This position does not meet the salary threshold for sponsorship.

Candidates on Student Visas are not eligible for this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with personal care tasks, including bathing, toileting, dressing, and meal support.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and accessible bed space for patients, ensuring they have necessary items within reach.
  • Adhere to safe care standards following Trust guidelines and policies, maintaining focus throughout the day despite occasional interruptions.
  • Provide care in accordance with infection prevention and health and safety protocols.
  • Contribute to patient record updates by documenting basic information such as fluid intake/output, nutrition, height, weight, and age.
  • Develop skills to promote self-care and independence among patients.
  • Ensure equipment and supplies are well-maintained, addressing any faults promptly.
  • Collaborate effectively as part of a team.

To progress to a Band 3 role:

  • Conduct patient observations, including heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, temperature, respiration, blood glucose monitoring, and GCS.
  • Collect and analyze urine samples.
  • Perform wound assessments and basic dressing changes.
  • Assist with the removal of peripheral cannulas and conduct urinalysis.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will perform a wide range of patient care activities under the supervision of qualified nursing staff, ensuring patient privacy and dignity are upheld at all times. The role requires flexibility to work a rotational shift pattern, including long days and night shifts, covering all days of the week, including weekends and bank holidays.

Qualifications and Training

Essential:

  • Good general education.
  • Willingness to pursue further training opportunities.

Desirable:

  • NVQ Qualification.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential:

  • Previous experience in a hospital or nursing home setting.
  • Understanding of personal care needs.
  • Awareness of the needs of older adults.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in the workplace.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with rehabilitation skills.

Skills and Abilities

Essential:

  • Strong oral communication skills.
  • Proficient written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Competent practical and personal care skills.

Desirable:

  • Basic IT skills.

  • A valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle for business purposes (unless exempt under the Equality Act 2010).
