As a Product Design Engineer at Bird Bellows, you will be responsible for the design and development of new and modified products in a highly regulated industry. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality and safety.

Core Activities
  • Develop and manage technical proposals and cost estimates for new and modified products.
  • Lead the concept development process, including management and oversight of development testing.
  • Prepare and present design reviews, both internal and with customers, to ensure that our products meet their requirements.
  • Define and manage qualification programmes, including drafting and checking of qualification plans, test procedures, and test reports.
  • Validate 3D models and 2D drawings to ensure that they meet the design requirements and obtain customer approval where necessary.
  • Validate tool designs, BOMs, and routings to ensure that parts produced meet the design requirements.
  • Establish, own, and update compliance matrices and verification and validation plans to ensure that our products meet the original specification requirements.
  • Liaise with customers to ensure that deviations to specifications are accepted and agreed where necessary.
  • Support the Project Manager by developing, driving, and reporting the technical activities of the project plan.
  • Manage technical risks using tools such as Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience in the design and development of new and modified products in a highly regulated industry.
  • Experience in the design and development of metallic ducting systems/components or thin wall sheet metal products.
  • Experience in leading product development and qualification test programmes.
Qualifications and Training

You will need:

  • A degree, HNC, or HND in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • A basic understanding of CAD systems, such as CAITA or Autodesk Inventor.
  • Knowledge of New Product Introduction Process Principles (AS, APQP) and cost estimating.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills at internal and external stakeholder levels.
  • Self-motivation and a willingness to learn and develop your skills.
