Job Summary

Bird Bellows is seeking a highly skilled Project Design Engineer to lead the development of new and modified products in a highly regulated industry. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing metallic ducting systems and components, as well as thin wall sheet metal products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage technical proposals and cost estimates for new and modified products.
  • Lead the development of concept designs, including management and oversight of development testing.
  • Prepare and present design reviews, both internal and with customers, as required.
  • Define and manage qualification programs, including drafting and checking of qualification plans, test procedures, and test reports.
  • Validate 3D models and 2D drawings to ensure they meet design requirements and obtain customer approval, as needed.
  • Validate tool designs, BOMs, and routings to ensure parts produced meet design requirements.
  • Establish, own, and update compliance matrices and verification and validation plans to ensure products meet original specification requirements.
  • Liaise with customers to ensure deviations to specifications are accepted and agreed, as required.
  • Support the Project Manager by developing, driving, and reporting technical activities of the project plan.
  • Manage technical risks using tools such as Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis.
Requirements
  • Experience in the design and development of new and modified products in a highly regulated industry.
  • Experience in the design and development of metallic ducting systems and components or thin wall sheet metal products.
  • Experience in leading product development and qualification test programs.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience of developing products within the Aerospace industry.
Education and Training
  • Degree/HNC/HND in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
Other Requirements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills at internal and external stakeholder levels.
  • Self-motivated.
