About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Environmental Policy Trainee. As a trainee, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in policy development, research, and analysis, while contributing to our mission of achieving a greener future.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and analysis on environmental policy issues, including tracking policy developments in Westminster and summarizing data and information.
  • Develop writing skills by contributing to reports and briefings, and gain skills in editing and fact-checking.
  • Support effective relationships and communications with stakeholders and external partners, including MPs, civil servants, NGOs, and other organizations.
  • Attend internal and external meetings, taking minutes and building relationships with our network.
  • Grow your skills in communication and presenting by drafting copy for internal and external use, and providing a short presentation to the team.
Requirements
  • Enthusiasm for supporting our vision of a green and prosperous future for all.
  • Interest in growing your understanding of politics in the UK and how environmental policy is developed.
  • A passion for people and building relationships, with a curiosity about what drives people and networks to do what they do.
  • Demonstrable skills in research and writing that you would like to develop.
  • Diligent and proactive approach, with an ability to use your initiative.
  • Good attention to detail, ability to read and summarize complex information, and collaborative skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, ability to prioritize work, and flexibility when plans change.
  • Good IT skills, with confidence using MS Office software platforms such as Word and Excel.
  • Ability to compromise and work in a non-partisan way.
  • At least five GCSEs including English and Maths graded five to nine (A-C).

Green Alliance is a charity and independent think tank, committed to achieving a greener future. We play a central role in shaping environmental thinking in the UK and are known for our cross-party influence, the clarity of our insights, and the quality of our reports, briefings, events, and podcasts.

We are a politically neutral organization, focused on policy that improves the environment. Our staff regularly talk to ministers, appear in newspaper articles and on TV and radio, and give evidence to parliamentary select committees.
