This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and well-respected Sleep and Ventilation service at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. As a Physiologist, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our team.
Main Responsibilities:- Perform and analyze respiratory sleep studies, including home sleep apnea tests, transcutaneous CO2 monitoring, oximetry, respiratory polygraphy, and actigraphy.
- Set up and carry out calibration, testing, and system checks for diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, adhering to departmental standard operating procedures.
- Participate in sleep CPAP services, including virtual telemonitoring and face-to-face appointments for initiation, troubleshooting, and follow-up.
- Perform and interpret blood gas (capillary) results, spirometry, and SNIP tests as part of NIV clinics with consultants.
- Undertake all clinical duties and responsibilities, with appropriate education and training by senior staff.
- Download and store patient data from diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
- Participate in the sleep and ventilation roster, including various shift patterns.
- Assist in the training of new staff, inductions, and training for external NHS staff as needed.
- Aid in service development projects and their implementation, as well as implementing trust and local agreed policies.
- Maintain self and departmental development with CPD and appropriate training, as agreed with managerial staff during annual appraisals.
- Escalate concerns or problems relating to standards of patient care or conduct, appropriately to the management team.
- Experience within a sleep and respiratory department.
- Desirable: Respiratory scoring, sleep study hook-up, CPAP experience, NIV experience, clinical experience within the NHS, and other NHS experience.
- Experience in a public-facing role.
- Teamworking and working independently.
- Desirable: Evidence of group working, teaching or mentoring, presentations, demonstrable use of Microsoft Office, evidence of documentation ability, use of specialist clinical software, hospital database use, and evidence of documenting patient information.
