Job Title: Locum Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Diabetologist to cover maternity leave for 12 months. The successful candidate will be based within Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and will play a key role in developing our local community diabetes services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide clinical leadership for a borough-based multidisciplinary team including DSNs, podiatrists, dietitians, and psychologists.
  • Deliver Consultant-led community diabetes clinics for type 1 and complex type 2 diabetes patients.
  • Work with practices to risk-stratify patients with diabetes and deliver MDTs to agree a management plan.
  • Offer advice and guidance via telephone or email.
  • Develop and implement innovative services to meet the needs of the local community and system partners.
Acute Role:

The successful candidate will also be responsible for facilitating continuity and high-quality diabetes care for patients with established or newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes admitted to the hospital, during their stay and on discharge.

On-Call Commitment:

There may be opportunities to undertake inpatient diabetes/endocrine reviews, preoperative assessments, endocrinology clinics, or engage in the on-call rota depending on the appointee's interests.

Professional Leave:

Must be agreed with the CD/DD and is discretionary according to the activity. No clinics should be cancelled for professional leave.

Team and Department:

The Diabetes and Endocrinology Department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Woolwich) and Queen Mary's Hospital (Sidcup) is a dynamic and supportive team. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced Consultants, nurses, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care.
