Summary

Objective:

  • The Educational Research Specialist will collaborate with a team of assessment professionals to facilitate the execution of research and development initiatives.
  • This role necessitates the application of specialized knowledge in educational assessment and associated research methodologies to independently conduct research tasks while working within a collaborative framework and receiving appropriate guidance from project leaders.
  • As a subject matter expert, the Educational Research Specialist will oversee various components of research projects, including conducting literature reviews, analyzing quantitative or qualitative data with specialized software, and contributing to presentations and reports.

Team Environment:
The Educational Research Specialist will be a part of the Research and Development team.

This team operates within the Assessment Research and Innovation sector, conducting both qualitative and quantitative educational research aimed at assisting AQA in developing innovative, valid, and inclusive assessments, whether in print or digital formats, while also leading thought in the field.

accessibility, fairness, equity, diversity, and inclusion; validity and innovation; grading, standards, and the role of AI in education and assessment. Our team comprises professionals with backgrounds in social and natural sciences, covering a wide range of expertise. The successful candidate will have access to various training, development, and mentorship opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:
Utilizing methodological expertise to enhance research design
Conducting elements of quantitative or qualitative research (e.g., literature reviews, data collection, data analysis, reports) using relevant software, building on skills gained through postgraduate studies or recent experience
Collaborating in teams to ensure successful project delivery
Keeping abreast of the educational assessment landscape and pertinent literature
Adhering to AQA's policies and procedures, particularly concerning Ethics and Data Protection
Contributing to research impact and outreach through report writing and other dissemination methods, beginning to establish a public presence in the assessment research community that bolsters AQA's reputation in educational assessment
Assisting in the continuous improvement of the team's research and development practices, fostering a positive team culture.

Essential Qualifications (to excel in this role, candidates should possess):

A bachelor's degree and a master's degree (or nearing completion) in psychology or education (other disciplines may also be considered), ideally including statistical training.

Alternatively, an equivalent professional qualification or demonstrable experience.
Familiarity with and developing practice in postgraduate-level qualitative or quantitative research methods for the social sciences
Proven ability to communicate research findings to diverse stakeholders in various formats (both written and verbal)
Capability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team
