About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Life Medical Underwriter to join our team at Legal & General. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will play a critical role in reviewing customer applications and assessing risk factors to determine whether we can offer Life, Critical Illness Cover and Income Protection policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately assess and document life and disability risks by reviewing applications and deciding which terms, if any, can be offered up to the value based on your autonomy level.
  • Participate in or lead projects to enhance the underwriting process and improve our systems and commercial viability, including instigating such projects, using your own initiative, expertise and business awareness.
  • Ensure any requests for further information are appropriate and accurate and commensurate with the risk being assessed, ensuring the customer journey is not impacted unnecessarily.
  • Identify complaints and ensure they are acted upon quickly and root causes highlighted to ensure compliance with complaints response time limits.
  • Take ownership of maintaining an excellent knowledge and understanding of legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Understand the commitments that are made about the level of service during the marketing and sales processes to ensure the area is capable of meeting those expectations and that customers' reasonable expectation of performance and service are met.
  • Thorough understanding of the risk factors for mortality and morbidity, as well as financial underwriting.
  • Understanding of legislations and regulatory requirements would be preferable.
