Position Overview

Hounslow and Richmond Community NHS Healthcare Trust is seeking a dedicated Vaccination Nurse to join their esteemed Immunisation team as part of the School Age Vaccination Service (SAV). This role is essential in ensuring the effective delivery and assessment of nasal flu and other vaccination initiatives within the SAV teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough assessments of young individuals to determine the prerequisites for administering vaccinations, including understanding contraindications and providing appropriate aftercare and guidance.
  • Contribute to the identification and safeguarding of children at risk, adhering to local safeguarding protocols.
  • Maintain up-to-date compliance with all statutory and mandatory training requirements, including CPR, Anaphylaxis, and Immunisation training.
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration with colleagues across various nursing disciplines and allied health professions.
  • Offer mentorship, support, and supervision to junior and unqualified staff members within the School Nursing service.
  • Ensure personal safety and the safety of others by adhering to legal requirements and established codes of practice, while being mindful of Trust policies on Health and Safety.

Job Duties

  • Administer vaccinations in accordance with the national immunisation schedule.
  • Keep precise and comprehensive records of all vaccinations administered.
  • Educate patients and their families about immunisation, addressing potential side effects and emphasizing the significance of vaccines.
  • Monitor patients for any adverse reactions following vaccination.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of vaccines, maintaining the cold chain as per guidelines.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, pharmacists, and social workers.
  • Engage in public health initiatives and campaigns aimed at promoting immunisation.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols to maintain a safe and hygienic working environment.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Registered Nurse with a valid license to practice.
  • Previous experience in immunisation and vaccination is preferred.
  • Familiarity with current immunisation schedules, vaccines, and contraindications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.

Working Conditions

  • The role may require travel to various locations to conduct immunisation clinics in schools, community centres, and other environments.
