We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team at National Nuclear Laboratory. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering engineering solutions that meet the required statutory site and national safety standards.
Main Responsibilities- Provide specialist design services to clients and customers, ensuring that all deliverables meet the agreed standards, quality, schedule, and cost.
- Contribute to the economic design of systems and equipment, taking into account the latest engineering legislative requirements and changes in directives, standards, and regulations.
- Oversee the work of others, developing the skills and abilities of team members to benefit the organization.
- Keep updated with all engineering legislative requirements, and changes in directives, standards, and regulations, ensuring that all work is compliant with relevant laws and regulations.
- Provide engineering discipline guidance to others, ensuring that all team members have the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their roles effectively.
- Actively participate in the development and application of appropriate technical and managerial processes and systems, ensuring that all work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner.
- Comply with all legislative, regulatory, and company policy standards and processes applicable to the role, ensuring that all work is carried out in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Degree/HND/HNC in an Engineering discipline or closely related subject, together with a good level of discipline design and design office experience.
- Proven knowledge and experience following an accredited design/engineering process to deliver an assured design/system that meets all required statutory site and national safety standards.
- Proven knowledge and experience using AutoCAD and 3D CAD software such as Inventor, Solidworks, Vault, together with Microsoft Office applications to provide fit-for-purpose engineered solutions.
- Proven knowledge and experience of using the EU directives, British Standards, and company standards and procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, to enable fit-for-purpose engineered solutions, ideas, and concepts to be clearly communicated to customers, regulators, and key stakeholders.
- Chartered Engineer preferred, minimum Incorporated Engineer, although equivalent experience will be taken into consideration.
- Proven knowledge and experience in system and component fault finding in operational active and non-active nuclear facilities, preferable on the Sellafield site.
- Proven knowledge and experience in the design, build, testing, installation, and commissioning of new plant systems and components, and modifications to existing systems and components.
- Ability to obtain SC level security clearance.
- Experience working in the nuclear sector, preferable on the Sellafield site, with a working knowledge of Sellafield Site Procedures, Engineering Standards, and Site License Conditions.
- Proven knowledge and experience of using Sellafield Ltd Engineering Standards in the design process and the Sellafield site drawing registry, CIMAGE.
- Knowledge and experience in producing mechanical and structural calculations to relevant industry design standards, ie EU directives, British Standards.
- Knowledge and experience in the substantiation of mechanical equipment designated as safety equipment in a safety case to Sellafield Engineering Standards and produce substantiation reports to substantiate that equipment to the relevant standard.
- Knowledge and experience writing or supporting the production of Plant Modification Proposals (PMP's) to modify equipment and plant on the Sellafield site.
