About the Role:

Bell is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join our team in Cumbria. As an Operations Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of our projects and teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of supervisors and foremen to ensure they have the necessary experience and skills.
  • Collaborate with the Lead QS to analyze branch figures and project performance, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Take the lead on HR issues related to operatives, ensuring a positive and productive work environment.
  • Develop and implement labor plans to manage workload, projections, transport, training, and Health & Safety.
  • Work closely with the Contracts Manager to establish and implement mobilization plans for new projects.
  • Ensure the correct resources are available to deliver projects on time, to specification, and budget.
  • Monitor labor, subcontractors, plant, and materials to maintain the high standards of 'the Bell Standard'.
  • Implement weekly labor plans to review and redeploy resources as needed to meet project programs.
  • Oversee the implementation of labor targets before project commencement.
  • Liaise with the Community Engagement Team to ensure resident or customer care needs are considered.
  • Recruit, induct, and develop site-based staff, including apprentices.
  • Provide regular feedback to the Branch Manager.
  • Communicate with suppliers to maintain service levels and review products regularly.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of trade experience.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Ideal experience in Social Housing working for a contractor.
  • Previous experience managing labor-based activities, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Good knowledge of the industry and a wide range of local contacts.
  • Knowledge of industry H&S.
  • GCSE grade C or above in 4 subjects, including Maths and English, or a C&G Advanced/Craft certificate and NVQ L2/3, HNC in Construction, or equivalent.
  • SMSTS Award.
  • CMI L3 Award, Principles of Management & Leadership.
  • Pitman Excel – Intermediate User.
  • CSCS card – Supervisor / Manager / Professionally qualified person.
