Position: Lead Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

Location: London / Hybrid (2 days a week in the office)

Reporting to: Engineering Manager

Role Overview

As a Lead Cloud Infrastructure Engineer within our Cloud Foundations team, you will be instrumental in architecting, deploying, and sustaining our cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Your expertise will ensure the scalability, security, and dependability of our cloud environment, empowering Rightmove to deliver cutting-edge solutions efficiently and cost-effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable and secure cloud infrastructure solutions utilizing GCP services.
  • Lead migration initiatives from data centers to cloud infrastructure.
  • Architect, implement, and maintain infrastructure provisioning and automation through Terraform-based Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies.
  • Oversee container orchestration management using Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and Helm.
  • Design and configure essential components of network cloud infrastructure, including CDNs, Load Balancers, API gateways, and service mesh.
  • Optimize cloud resource utilization and implement effective cost management strategies.
  • Define cloud and network security policies while ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and observability solutions for cloud infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure challenges.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical growth of the team.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 4-5+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure engineering, with a strong emphasis on GCP.
  • Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform.
  • Proficiency in containerization technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes (GKE).
  • Experience in implementing and managing service mesh solutions.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts and their application in cloud environments.
  • Experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployment and management.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used in infrastructure.
  • Experience in implementing and managing secrets management, telemetry, and observability tools.
  • Drive the adoption of DevOps/SRE processes and culture, ensuring harmony between site reliability and delivery velocity.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with cost optimization techniques in cloud environments.

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of Google Pub/Sub and Kafka, as well as microservices architectures.
  • Performance optimization of search databases (e.g., Elastic).
  • Familiarity with serverless computing concepts and implementations.
  • Experience with infrastructure performance tuning and optimization.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML infrastructure requirements and implementations on GCP.
