Position: Lead Cloud Infrastructure Engineer - Cloud Foundations

Location: Flexible / Hybrid (2 days a week in the office)

Reporting to: Engineering Manager

Role Overview

As a Lead Cloud Infrastructure Engineer within our Cloud Foundations team, you will be instrumental in architecting, deploying, and sustaining our cloud ecosystem on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Your primary focus will be on ensuring the scalability, security, and dependability of our cloud infrastructure, empowering Rightmove to deliver cutting-edge solutions efficiently and cost-effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable and secure cloud infrastructure solutions utilizing GCP services.
  • Lead migration initiatives from data centers to cloud environments.
  • Architect, implement, and maintain infrastructure provisioning and automation using Terraform-based Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies.
  • Oversee and manage container orchestration with Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and Helm.
  • Design and configure essential components of network cloud infrastructure, including CDNs, Load Balancers, API gateways, and service mesh.
  • Optimize cloud resource utilization and develop cost management strategies.
  • Establish cloud and network security protocols and ensure compliance.
  • Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and observability frameworks for cloud infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve intricate infrastructure challenges.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the team's technical advancement.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 4-5+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure engineering, particularly with GCP.
  • Extensive expertise in Infrastructure as Code, especially with Terraform.
  • Proficient in containerization technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes (GKE).
  • Experience in implementing and managing service mesh solutions.
  • Strong understanding of networking principles and their application in cloud settings.
  • Familiarity with GitLab CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployment and management.
  • Proficient in at least one programming language commonly utilized in Infrastructure.
  • Experience in implementing and managing secrets management, telemetry, and observability tools.
  • Drive the adoption of DevOps/SRE practices where site reliability and delivery speed are balanced.
  • Solid understanding of cloud security best practices and compliance standards.
  • Experience with cost optimization strategies in cloud environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Google Pub/Sub and Kafka, along with microservices architectures.
  • Performance optimization of search databases (e.g., Elastic).
  • Familiarity with serverless computing concepts and implementations.
  • Experience in infrastructure performance tuning and optimization.
  • Understanding of AI/ML infrastructure requirements and implementations on GCP.
