Position Overview:

We are in search of a proactive and seasoned Director of Taxation to spearhead our Tax department. This pivotal leadership position entails overseeing, reporting, and providing expert advice on all tax-related issues for Cadent and the wider Quadgas group.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the corporation tax disclosures for the Group's statutory and regulatory accounts, including submissions to our economic regulator.
  • Prepare and file corporation tax returns, negotiating tax positions with advisors as necessary.
  • Supervise the preparation and submission of the Group's VAT return and annual PAYE Settlement Agreement (PSA), ensuring the monitoring of key employment tax risk areas.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities within the tax strategy framework by maximizing available tax reliefs on capital expenditures and R&D investments.
  • Manage tax risk and oversee the annual Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) process.
  • Lead educational initiatives for key business units on relevant tax matters.
  • Provide management information regarding the Company's tax liabilities, including budgets and forecasts.
  • Engage in routine interactions with HMRC.
  • Proactively identify opportunities and risks, developing and implementing strategies to ensure optimal outcomes for the group.
  • Support and mentor a team of three tax professionals.
Qualifications and Experience:

Essential Qualifications:
  • Recognized accountancy qualification.
  • Additional tax qualifications (e.g., ATT/CTA).
Practical Experience:
  • In-depth knowledge of direct taxation, particularly capital allowances legislation.
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate the implications of tax law changes to stakeholders.
  • Thorough understanding of the regulatory framework governing Cadent's operations.
  • Familiarity with employment and indirect taxes.
  • Strong organizational skills to meet stringent statutory deadlines, along with excellent influencing and communication abilities.
  • Understanding of business systems and processes, including the operation of controls within those systems.
  • Experience negotiating with HMRC.
