About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Freedom to Speak Up Guardian to join our team at Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to play a crucial part in enhancing our Freedom to Speak Up service, supporting 7,000 staff and temporary staff, and promoting a culture where everyone feels confident and safe to raise concerns.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as an expert and professional resource for Trust colleagues on all aspects of practice relating to the speaking up agenda.
  • Protect patient safety and quality of care by identifying and addressing potential risks and concerns.
  • Improve the experience of workers by providing support and guidance on speaking up and raising concerns.
  • Promote continuous learning and improvement by analyzing performance data and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Support the Lead Guardian in interpreting and advising on national policy, guidance, and standards on Freedom to Speak Up across the Trust.
  • Support the organisation with the 'Well Led' CQC inspections by providing evidence of effective leadership and governance.
Requirements
  • Relevant full degree or Masters degree in a relevant field.
  • Evidence of recent evidence-based professional development in an up-to-date portfolio.
  • Exceptional proven leadership skills, with experience in effective leadership and risk management.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and professional accountability.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Trust's policies and strategies.
  • Able to analyze performance, competing perspectives, and priorities in the delivery of health and support service improvement.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Registered health or social care practitioner.
  • Coaching and or mediation qualification.
  • Experience of Freedom To Speak Up either as a guardian or in an associate role.
Managerial/Supervisory Experience
  • Experience of operational management or senior management in a corporate governance setting.
  • Experience of working effectively across organisational and professional boundaries in complex organisations.
  • Proven track record of success in managing multi-disciplinary teams, individual and team performance; management of absence, and workforce planning.
  • Able to undertake supervision, systematic peer caseload review of colleagues on an individual or group basis, coaching and mentoring.
  • Demonstrable experience of effective risk management.
Finance/Resources
  • Proven track record of success in budget management.
  • In conjunction with Directorate Management Team, is responsible for the safe and effective delivery of performance and financial targets.
Information Technology/Resources
  • Competent user of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Able to manipulate data, service, and performance related to design written and visual information, complex papers, and reports.
Personal Qualities/Attributes
  • Able to communicate effectively at different levels of the organisation in both written form and in small and large groups, together with ability to motivate and persuade individuals and teams, particularly in areas of service and performance improvement requiring a collaborative commitment to change and across organisations, external agencies, and all sectors of the community to enable effective relationships.
  • Evidence of skills in diplomacy, negotiation, and influencing and the ability to deal appropriately and professionally with challenge.
