About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Pensions Actuarial Consultant to join our team at GB035 Mercer (UK) Limited. As a key member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will provide clients with expert advice on funding, investment, risk transfer, and covenant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on the preparation and delivery of customized advice and solutions to clients, with a primary focus on DB pension schemes.
  • Develop and implement tailored strategies to meet clients' needs, utilizing strong technical actuarial skills and excellent communication skills.
  • Provide informed views on current topics and tailor advice accordingly.
  • Act as final technical reviewer for actuarial calculations and agree the strategy, direction, and resourcing for client work.
  • Supervise, appraise, and mentor employees under supervision, and provide guidance to and peer review the work of colleagues.
  • Participate in new business prospect activity and set and negotiate fees, where appropriate.

Requirements:

  • Fully qualified Actuary or nearing qualification.
  • Excellent communication skills, strong analytical, numerical, and critical thinking skills, including a good understanding of actuarial approaches for pensions.
  • Ability to manage projects, including distribution of work to junior colleagues.
  • Strong understanding of a range of ways in which UK pension schemes operate.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and be adaptable in a changing environment.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with colleagues and clients.

Desirable Qualities:

  • Significant experience working with trustees and/or corporates on DB pensions within an actuarial consultancy role.
  • Excellent business acumen, adaptability, and a desire to be in front of clients, all underpinned by the required technical skills.
