Role: Senior Design Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Design Engineer to join our team in Leamington Spa. In this role, you will play a key part in the design and development of cutting-edge transmission systems, from initial concept through to production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the detailed mechanical design of transmissions and associated components, including stress calculations, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), 2D detailing, layouts, and tolerance stacks.
  • Conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on components and systems, focusing on shaft and bearing analysis and gear data specification.
  • Select appropriate materials and processes for optimal performance and manufacturability.
  • Perform calculations for gear, shaft, and bearing systems to ensure structural integrity and efficiency.
  • Design casings and castings, leveraging your expertise in material properties and manufacturing techniques.
  • Collaborate closely with customers and suppliers to gather requirements and ensure seamless integration of designs.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation to support engineering projects.
  • Provide on-site support during the initial production builds, ensuring smooth implementation of designs.
  • Address design queries and concession requests from Operations to facilitate efficient manufacturing processes.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience working in the automotive or motorsport industry, with a strong understanding of customer requirements.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of automotive transmission systems and design principles.
  • Proficiency in using CAD software (Creo, Catia, or NX) for detailed design and component modeling.
  • Ability to create accurate 2D technical drawings with a high level of GD&T competency.
  • Experience with PLM systems (Windchill preferred).
  • Familiarity with modern manufacturing methods and processes.
  • Working knowledge of FEA techniques and software.
  • Advanced Excel skills for solving mathematical problems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
