About the Position
Be part of our commitment to achieving NetZero and contributing to a Clean, Fair, and Affordable Energy future.
Are you ready to operate at the forefront of electricity management, overseeing the National Grid's Transmission System from our advanced control center? Do you possess a background in Power Systems Engineering, Electricity, or Physics?
This opportunity is designed for you. The Transmission Network Control Centre (TNCC) plays a crucial role in our operations. You will be part of a dynamic team responsible for the real-time management of the National Electricity Transmission System, addressing everything from routine operations to emergency situations across England and Wales.
Your role will be essential in ensuring effective network management and supporting planned activities. Responsibilities include implementing the system outage strategy, responding to site alerts, and facilitating essential maintenance of our infrastructure. Comprehensive training will be provided, and you will need to attain the appropriate authorization level before taking on responsibilities within the TNCC. Our tailored training program includes realistic simulations of the entire Transmission System, equipping you with the confidence and support necessary for this vital position.
This position requires a shift work schedule (operating hours between 7am to 7pm, including one weekend every four weeks), allowing for a balanced work-life experience. A shift allowance is included in addition to the base salary.
Required Qualifications
You should demonstrate the ability to thrive in a process-oriented environment, maintaining a strong focus on safety. Strong logical reasoning, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the capacity to prioritize tasks effectively.
As a collaborative team member, you will motivate and engage with fellow control room staff, working alongside approximately 70 colleagues and managers. A minimum of HNC (or equivalent) in a STEM-related field or relevant experience is required, along with the ability to perform under pressure while remaining composed.
Ideally, you will have a background in power systems, with experience in a control room or related operational or engineering roles. A solid understanding of transmission network operations and basic analytical techniques is also preferred.
Benefits
We offer a competitive salary ranging from £45,500 to £57,000, depending on experience, along with a 10.4% shift allowance on top of the base salary.
Additional benefits include 26 days of annual leave with options to buy or sell holiday days, 26 weeks of fully paid parental or adoption leave, and access to a back-up care service. Our generous double-matched pension contribution scheme could enhance your pension value up to 18% of your salary, and you will have the opportunity to purchase discounted shares.
We also provide financial support for educational pursuits and are dedicated to your professional growth.
Additional Information
We encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply, as we are committed to fostering an inclusive and authentic workplace. We value the unique contributions of all individuals and strive to create an environment where everyone feels respected and valued.
Our objective is to operate our business in a manner that promotes an inclusive culture, where employment decisions are based on qualifications, innovation from diverse teams, and business needs.
