Position Overview

The Pharmacy Stores at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust is in search of a dedicated, proactive, and skilled individual to join our team. In this position, you will oversee the daily replenishment of medications, ensuring accurate picking and distribution to various wards and departments. You will also be responsible for receiving pharmaceutical supplies from vendors, guaranteeing a prompt and precise supply chain within the organization. Your role will be crucial in upholding a high-quality supply service.

Please be aware that this position involves physical activity, including manual handling, lifting, pushing, pulling, and bending with packages weighing between 6kg and 20kg. The ability to utilize mechanical aids for moving loads exceeding 20kg is essential (comprehensive training will be provided). These physical tasks may need to be sustained for extended periods throughout the workday.

This role requires walking considerable distances and for extended durations to fulfill duties across the hospital premises.

Ideal candidates will possess an NVQ Level 2 in Pharmaceutical Science (or an equivalent qualification) or be willing to pursue this certification.

The position entails one late shift per week (ending at 6pm), weekend work approximately once every five weeks (either Saturday or Sunday), and around one Bank Holiday shift annually.

We operate on a four-day workweek, with one designated day off each week, which is scheduled on a rotating basis.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct ward stock replenishments and deliver orders efficiently. Receive, log, and organize medications delivered by suppliers. Operate automated systems for inventory management.

Job Duties

Responsibilities include:

Performing stock audits and managing inventory levels on wards. Assisting in the return and recycling of unneeded items from clinical areas. Receiving and properly storing goods delivered to the pharmacy. Conducting scheduled stock assessments and expiry checks in clinical settings. Maintaining organized filing, storage, and stock rotation within the pharmacy. Supporting cleanliness and organization within the pharmacy and medication distribution units. Working methodically to ensure all requests and prescriptions are prioritized appropriately. Participating in team meetings and contributing to pharmacy staff discussions. Engaging in personal development and training initiatives. Upholding health and safety standards for oneself and others. Treating all colleagues and patients with respect and maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications

Essential

Minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade C or above in English, Maths, and Science. Experience in a hospital pharmacy setting. NVQ Level 2 in Pharmaceutical Science.

Desirable

Experience in customer service roles.
