Role Overview

Life Support Technicians are tasked with overseeing and managing the hyperbaric conditions and systems that sustain Divers during saturation diving operations. Their role is pivotal in ensuring the safety and efficiency of saturation diving activities.

They are accountable for addressing all the needs of Divers within the diving complex and must remain vigilant regarding items being transferred to and from the diving system.

They are responsible for conducting or supervising all such transfers safely.

Familiarity with the diving system in use is essential for effective performance.

Key Responsibilities

Core Functions

PRIMARY

  • Maintain a detailed logbook documenting employment activities.
  • Ensure understanding and compliance with the responsibilities outlined in IMCA D 013.
  • Safeguard the health and safety of the diving team within the saturation complex, reporting to the Life Support Supervisor (LSS).
  • Acquire thorough knowledge of all relevant components of the Dive System and associated operating procedures.
  • Operate all equipment safely in accordance with Oceaneering Dive System Manuals, ensuring the secure operation of critical equipment, including medical and equipment locks.
  • Assist the LSS in verifying that all plant and equipment are suitable, well-maintained, and compliant with relevant standards, including Class Authority, IMCA, and IMO.
  • Be proficient in all chamber blow-down preparation and operational procedures, as well as decompression protocols.
  • Ensure effective communication with chamber occupants, timely food orders, and that Divers' needs are met respectfully.
  • Relay any concerns regarding Diver health or behavior to the LSS.
  • Complete and submit Post-Dive Reports to the Dive Supervisor.
  • Ensure Transfers Under Pressure are conducted according to operational procedures, under LSS supervision.
  • Familiarize oneself with all Oceaneering Diving Operations documentation, including the Diving Manual and Emergency and Contingency Manual.
  • Retain original copies of all monitoring sheets and reports for return to the Diving Manager.
  • Adhere to the Oceaneering Management of Change Process for any necessary changes.
  • Be knowledgeable about vessel-specific Emergency and Contingency procedures, ensuring regular drills and documentation.
  • Support the LSS in managing gas supplies and ensuring adequate system spares and consumables are available.
  • Continuously monitor the chamber environment and ensure compliance with hygiene standards.
  • Be familiar with the Hyperbaric Lifeboat Chamber and its operating procedures.
  • Ensure the number of Divers under pressure does not exceed the maximum capacity as specified.
  • Verify compliance of all diving first aid and medical equipment.
  • Hold valid IMCA certifications as a fully qualified LST.
  • Uphold the safety policies and procedures to maintain a secure working environment.
  • Document all operations and incidents accurately.
  • Prepare and manage hyperbaric evacuation and rescue plans.
  • Participate in all diving emergency drills and familiarization training.
  • Supervise emergency and backup systems and respond appropriately to diving emergencies.
  • Foster a culture of safety and quality management within the team.
  • Encourage team collaboration and communication to address issues promptly.
Additional Responsibilities

  • Uphold the Company’s quality assurance and control standards across all operational and diving activities.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislative directives and Company diving manuals.
  • Implement and document a routine maintenance program for diving systems and support equipment.
  • Regularly review system audits for compliance.
  • Supervise the operation of all chamber-complex related equipment, ensuring proper functioning.
  • Assist the LSS in maintaining hygiene within the Saturation System.
  • Manage diving gases and consumables effectively.
  • Stay registered with the competency assessment scheme and be well-versed in emergency procedures.
