About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Officer to join our team at Bangor University's School of Ocean Sciences. The successful candidate will be working on a cross-disciplinary UKRI-funded project, FisHistory, which aims to develop innovative approaches to inform the sustainable management of fisheries and marine ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, conduct, and execute cross-disciplinary research on marine fish and their fisheries, relying heavily on historical sources and spatial/GIS data.
  • Conduct interviews with fishers and other stakeholders, and liaise with external and internal partners.
  • Manage and analyze large and historical datasets, including sourcing, extraction, standardization, classification, storage, sharing, and publication.
  • Deliver research outcomes, including contributing to publications, project/funder reports, and dissemination of research outputs to relevant organizations.
  • Administer the research project, including data management, participating in/coordinating meetings, organizing workshops, building and maintaining stakeholder engagement, and social media engagement.
Requirements
  • PhD in either history/related humanities or sciences, or equivalent experience relevant to the role.
  • Demonstrable understanding of historical ecology/marine historical ecology.
  • Experience in managing large and/or historical datasets, integrating multiple data types, and visualizing and analyzing quantitative/spatial data.
  • Good verbal and written skills, ability to work on own initiative, and prioritize workload and work to deadlines.
  • Good computer skills, including MS Office, Powerpoint, and Excel.
