Medical Secretary Role

We are seeking an experienced Medical Secretary to join our team at Spire Methley Park Hospital. As a Medical Secretary, you will provide a high-quality secretarial service to our valued Consultants, supporting them in providing excellent patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide an efficient secretarial service to all Consultants, including typing clinic notes and letters, and managing correspondence.
  • Answer patient queries, using tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive issues.
  • Liaise with Consultants and their secretaries to resolve patient queries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Be responsible for handling all clinic correspondence, telephone calls, and queries for at least six Consultants, displaying a high level of accuracy, presentation, and attention to detail.
  • Communicate effectively with GP surgeries, other healthcare professionals, and external agencies.
  • Provide copy clinic letters when needed, and order Consultants' paper and office stationery.
  • Log all incoming clinic/theatre typing, insurance claim forms, and DWP forms, and distribute them appropriately.
  • Assist in the training of new and trainee Medical Secretaries, and undergo mandatory training as required.
  • Ensure consistent provision of service during holiday/sickness periods, by providing adequate cover of private typing.
  • Contribute to the development of departmental procedures, and familiarise yourself with company policies and procedures.
  • Deliver exemplary customer service to all users of the service, including Consultants, patients, and co-workers.

Requirements:

  • Good standard of education.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Professional telephone manner.
  • A good knowledge of medical, anatomical, and physiological terminology.
  • Knowledge of IT systems.
  • RSA level II or equivalent.
