About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electromagnetic Materials and Apertures Scientist to join our team at Leonardo. As a Lead EM Materials and Apertures Scientist, you will be responsible for developing and integrating sensors for low observable and airborne platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and apply electromagnetic principles to design and integrate sensors for low observable and airborne platforms.
  • Work with a specialist team to develop expertise in applying electromagnetic principles to sensor design and integration.
  • Collaborate with technical experts in antenna design, mechanical engineering, and material science to develop and integrate sensors.
  • Conduct research into advanced meta-materials, meta-surfaces, and frequency selective surfaces, including their electrical and mechanical designs.
  • Assess and model system or subsystem design to ensure compatibility with overall system performance.
  • Use EM simulation codes to analyze and optimize sensor design and installation impacts on stealthy vehicles.
  • Present results and designs through written reports and oral presentations.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to others, promoting a culture of sharing best practice and process improvement.
About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Electromagnetic Materials and Apertures Scientist with a degree in a STEM subject and experience in at least one of the following areas: low observables, stealth technology, RF design, antenna design, or computational electromagnetic modeling.

Desirable Skills:

  • Master's degree or PhD in a relevant subject.
  • Working knowledge of CST Microwave Studio or similar EM modeling tools.
  • Scientific programming experience, preferably in MATLAB.
  • Theoretical or practical knowledge of antenna/EM materials measurements.
  • Measurement experience using standard equipment (VNA, spectrum analyzer, etc.).
  • Chartered Engineer registration with the Engineering Council and membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Experience of managing relationships with customers and suppliers.
