About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Band 6 Registered Nurse to join our Physical Health Team in Essex. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of physical health assessments to individuals with severe mental illness.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide high-quality clinical support to junior colleagues and act as a clinical expert in physical health assessments.
  2. Contribute to the assessment of physical and mental health needs, with a focus on improving the physical health of individuals with severe mental illness.
  3. Develop and maintain a good understanding of normal physical and mental health parameters to respond effectively to deteriorating health.
  4. Provide professional support to the physical health team, including sharing best practices and role modeling.
  5. Ensure accurate physical health observations and blood tests are taken and actioned for patients eligible for annual physical health checks.
  6. Assess patients holistically and support junior staff with assessments related to lifestyle, exercise, mental health, nutrition, smoking, alcohol, drug use, and sexual health.
  7. Facilitate referrals to external services as required, including social services and secondary mental health services.

Requirements
  • Registered Nurse - Mental Health/Learning Disability/General with current NMC registration.
  • ENB 998 / Preceptorship and/or Practice Supervisor and Assessor Training.
  • At least 3 years' experience post-registration at Band 5 & community nursing experience.
  • Detailed awareness of relevant evidence base relating to physical health in SMI population.
  • Experience of working in clinic settings, e.g., Clozapine, Depot/LAI, or physical health.
