Behaviour Mentor Opportunity

Teaching Personnel is on the lookout for a dedicated and skilled Behaviour Mentor to contribute to a secondary school recognized for its quality education. This full-time role is designed to support students in overcoming behavioural challenges and fostering a positive learning environment.

Position Summary:

As a Behaviour Mentor, your influence will be crucial in assisting students who encounter difficulties in managing their behaviour, thereby promoting their engagement with academic pursuits. Your key responsibilities will encompass:

  • Individualized Student Support: Delivering tailored mentoring sessions to students facing behavioural hurdles. You will work intimately with these individuals to uncover the root causes of their behaviour, guiding them towards effective coping mechanisms and enhanced self-regulation.
  • Behavioural Strategy Implementation: Aiding in the execution of behaviour management frameworks within classrooms and the broader school setting. You will collaborate with educators to address challenging behaviours and help sustain a constructive learning atmosphere.
  • Emotional and Pastoral Support: Serving as a positive role model and reliable adult for students needing extra guidance. You will provide emotional assistance, helping students cultivate self-esteem, resilience, and accountability for their actions.
  • Collaborative Approach: Partnering with teachers, the pastoral team, and the SENCO to devise and apply effective behaviour support plans. You will play a role in crafting personalized behaviour strategies tailored to each student's unique requirements.
  • Monitoring Progress: Maintaining comprehensive records of student development, behavioural incidents, and intervention outcomes. You will regularly assess the effectiveness of the support provided and collaborate with the school to refine strategies as necessary.
  • Crisis Management: Offering immediate assistance during escalated behavioural situations, employing de-escalation techniques to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students and staff. You will be an integral part of the team responsible for managing and resolving behavioural crises.
  • Engagement with Families: Communicating with parents and guardians to keep them updated on their child's progress and behaviour. You will strive to establish strong partnerships between home and school that foster student development.
  • Goal Setting and Mentorship: Assisting students in establishing personal objectives and providing continuous support to help them realize these goals. You will encourage positive behaviours and attitudes, ensuring students remain focused on their educational and personal growth.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children or adolescents exhibiting challenging behaviours, preferably in an educational context.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building rapport and trust with students, staff, and families.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic demeanor, particularly in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, with a proactive and adaptable approach to meeting student needs.
  • Familiarity with behaviour management techniques is advantageous, though training will be provided.
  • A strong commitment to assisting students in overcoming barriers to their learning and achieving their maximum potential.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive weekly remuneration ranging from £419.25 to £500.
  • The chance to significantly impact the lives of students requiring additional behavioural support.
  • A collaborative and supportive work environment within a well-regarded educational institution.
  • Access to professional development and training opportunities to enhance your expertise.
  • Potential for the role to transition into a permanent position based on performance.
