Position Overview
The successful candidate will lead and engage in high-caliber research as part of a UKRI-funded initiative focused on developing innovative satellite-assisted technologies aimed at enhancing energy resilience amidst climate-related challenges. This role necessitates expertise in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) related to smart energy frameworks, satellite communication systems, smart grids, and microgrid operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct independent and collaborative research under the mentorship of the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigators, concentrating on the development of resilient satellite-aided technologies for effective energy management within smart grid infrastructures.
  • Examine the feasibility of various satellite missions and configurations to efficiently identify Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) while ensuring optimal refresh rates, contributing to the creation of Satellite-assisted Digital Twins for DERs.
  • Innovate strategies for coordinating DERs to enhance power restoration efforts, thereby improving grid resilience and minimizing the duration of power outages following hazards. Investigate the application of satellite communications to enable rapid and reliable data transmission for resilient communication networks during and after emergencies.
  • Test and validate satellite-assisted strategies for post-hazard restoration in real-world settings. Proficiency in software programming and simulation tools, such as Matlab and AI methodologies, is essential.
  • Prepare research documentation and publications as mandated by funding requirements or for broader dissemination within the academic and industrial sectors.
  • Participate in and, when necessary, lead relevant meetings, ensuring effective communication of research findings to stakeholders in appropriate formats.

This research initiative is situated within the Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Electrical Engineering, specifically in the Electrical Power and Control Systems Research Group.

Candidate Profile
