The successful candidate will engage in advanced research to support a significant research initiative focused on developing satellite-assisted technologies aimed at enhancing energy resilience amidst climate-related challenges. This role necessitates expertise in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as it pertains to smart energy systems, satellite communications, smart grids, and microgrids.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent and collaborative research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigators, focusing on the development of satellite-aided technologies for energy management in smart grids.
- Evaluate satellite missions and configurations that are economically viable for identifying Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) with optimal refresh rates, contributing to the creation of Satellite-assisted Digital Twins for DERs.
- Innovate methods for coordinating DERs to enhance grid resilience by minimizing the duration of power outages following hazards, and explore satellite communications for efficient data transmission in resilient networks.
- Test and validate satellite-assisted strategies for post-hazard restoration in practical environments, requiring proficiency in software programming and simulation tools such as Matlab and AI applications.
- Prepare research reports and publications as mandated by funding requirements or for dissemination to the broader academic and industrial community.
- Participate in and contribute to relevant meetings, and engage in sharing research findings with stakeholders in appropriate formats.
Team Environment
This research initiative is part of the Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Electrical Engineering, specifically within the Electrical Power and Control Systems Research Group.
Candidate Profile
Applicants should possess a first degree and be either qualified or nearing qualification at the Doctoral level in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields. Please refer to the person specification for detailed role requirements.
