Position Overview
The successful candidate will lead and engage in advanced research initiatives aligned with the UKRI-funded project focused on developing satellite-assisted technologies to enhance energy resilience amidst climate-related challenges. This role demands expertise in various domains including Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for smart energy frameworks, satellite communication systems, and innovative energy management solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct independent and collaborative research under the mentorship of the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigators, focusing on the creation of hazard-resilient satellite technologies for effective energy management within smart grid systems.
  • Examine satellite missions and configurations that optimize the identification of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) while ensuring adequate refresh rates, contributing to the advancement of Satellite-assisted Digital Twins for DERs.
  • Devise novel strategies for coordinating DERs to expedite power restoration, thereby enhancing grid resilience and minimizing the duration of outages following hazards. Investigate the role of satellite communications in enabling rapid and reliable data transmission essential for resilient communication networks during and after incidents.
  • Validate and assess satellite-assisted restoration strategies in real-world testing environments. Proficiency in software programming and simulation tools, such as Matlab and AI methodologies, is essential.
  • Generate comprehensive research reports and publications as mandated by funding requirements or for broader dissemination within the academic and industrial sectors.
  • Participate in relevant meetings, contribute insights, and lead discussions as necessary, ensuring effective communication of research findings to stakeholders.
