Newcastle upon Tyne, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom University of South Hampton Full time
Research Fellow in Event-Triggered Modelling

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Fellow to join our team at the University of Southampton, working on the SONNETS project. This £6.5M EPSRC programme grant aims to create new tools, algorithms, and systems for monitoring and estimating UK national financial risk.

The successful candidate will be responsible for building a digital shadow for the UK's economy, which will constantly ingest data from various sources, generate potential adverse scenarios, model and label the scenarios, and use machine learning methods to build intelligent and proactive risk models.

About the Role

We are looking for an independent and creative researcher with the ability to use theory and applied engineering to create and use complex computing systems. The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent experience in an area related to computational systems, such as networking, cloud architecture, distributed computing, high-performance computing, or verifying distributed systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain complex systems using systems languages such as C/C++, Rust, Java, or Go.
  • Collaborate with a large group of researchers and contribute to modern software development practices such as source control and testing.
  • Support the cloud-based integration of a diverse set of learning and modelling components developed within the project.

What We Offer

The University of Southampton is committed to creating an environment where everyone can thrive. We offer a generous holiday allowance, additional university closure days, and a flexible working approach. We are proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect, and equality of opportunity.

Applications are welcome from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded, the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
