Role Summary
The Media Operations department is integral to the Technology & Media Operations Group, responsible for delivering exceptional content across various platforms. Our team consists of approximately nine hundred professionals dedicated to managing production operations for the BBC's news, radio, and sports services.
Collaborating closely with news, sports, and content teams, we co-create engaging content that reaches millions of viewers daily. Our responsibilities also include managing production services, storage, fleet operations, and outside broadcast bases across the region.
We take pride in producing high-quality content that resonates with our audiences, emphasizing creativity, trust, and excellence in everything we do.
Interview Process
Candidates selected for interviews will be asked to provide a showreel, not exceeding 20 minutes, showcasing their best work, particularly pieces that highlight their ability to meet tight deadlines and demonstrate creativity. A face-to-face interview will also be conducted at our Birmingham studio.
Key Responsibilities
As a Principal Technical Operator, you will play a crucial role in the production of BBC Midlands Today, one of the most viewed programs on BBC 1. Your responsibilities will include:
- Creating imaginative and engaging content for television, radio, and online platforms.
- Demonstrating exceptional camera and editing skills while collaborating effectively with team members.
- Supporting the BBC's Digital First strategy by understanding and adapting to the evolving media landscape.
- Working in a fast-paced environment with varying shifts, including weekends and late nights.
- Contributing to various operational areas, including audio mixing, directing, and satellite operations.
- Ensuring safety and adhering to risk assessment protocols in all operations.
You will receive training to enhance your operational skills and will have opportunities to mentor and support fellow team members.
