Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Product Safety Specialist to join our team at BAE Systems Submarines. As a key member of our Safety & Environmental team, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining our Safety Management System (SMS). This is an exciting opportunity to work with a talented team of professionals and contribute to the delivery of our national endeavour.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the Safety Management System (SMS) to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Lead Product Safety hazard and risk identification, management, and assessment activities to ensure the safety of our submarines and their crew.
  • Oversee the administration and management of the Project Hazard Log to ensure accurate and timely reporting of safety incidents.
  • Complete peer reviews, checking, verification, and assurance tasks to demonstrate the adequacy and robustness of the Safety Case and supporting documentation.
  • Understand the application of wider Safety Case, Quality, and Management System documentation to ensure seamless integration with our submarines programs.
  • Influence the construction and delivery of the Project Safety Case, including Safety Case reports, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Produce, present, and articulate clear and logical technical safety arguments to support the development and implementation of our Safety Management System.
  • Provide technical support and oversight to the assessment and quantification of functional integration risk to ensure the safe operation of our submarines.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Knowledge of HAZOP/HAZIN/FTA and experience in the use of Safety Management Systems (SMS).
  • STEM Degree or equivalent experience.

Desirable Skills:

We are looking for candidates with experience in:

  • Chairing Hazard Identification (HAZIN) meetings.
  • Mentoring/coaching teams/individuals.
  • Submarines design life-cycle experience.
