About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Product Safety Specialist to join our team at BAE Systems. As a key member of our Safety & Environmental team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our products and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Safety Management System (SMS) to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Lead Product Safety hazard and risk identification, management, and assessment activities to minimize risks and ensure safe product design.
  • Oversee the administration and management of the Project Hazard Log to track and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Complete peer reviews, checking, verification, and assurance tasks to demonstrate the adequacy and robustness of the Safety Case and supporting documentation.
  • Understand the application of wider Safety Case, Quality, and Management System documentation to ensure alignment with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Influence the construction and delivery of the Project Safety Case, including Safety Case reports, to ensure effective communication of safety information.
  • Produce, present, and articulate clear and logical technical safety arguments to support safety decisions and recommendations.
  • Provide technical support and oversight to the assessment and quantification of functional integration risk to ensure safe product design.
Requirements
  • Essential:
    • Knowledge of HAZOP/HAZIN/FTA methodologies and their application in safety management.
    • Experience in the use of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and their implementation in a similar role.
    • STEM degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in chairing Hazard Identification (HAZIN) meetings and facilitating safety discussions.
    • Experience in mentoring/coaching teams/individuals to develop safety skills and knowledge.
    • Submarines design life-cycle experience and knowledge of safety management in a similar industry.
