Temperature is a fundamental quantity that plays a crucial role in various biochemical processes, technological applications, and environmental sustainability. The ability to measure temperature accurately is essential for optimizing the performance and energy efficiency of various technologies, including microprocessor chips. Current temperature measurement methods suffer from limitations, such as the need for periodic calibration and the challenge of measuring temperature on a sub-micron scale. This project aims to address these issues by developing a novel miniaturized on-chip approach using active quantum-confined semiconductor optical resonators.
About YouWe are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD researcher to join our team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of a 2:1 degree. Desirable skills and experience include experimental physics, integrated engineering, nanotechnology, optical physics, quantum mechanics, semiconductors, solid-state physics, and thermodynamics. The student will have access to world-leading facilities within the James Watt Nanofabrication Centre at the University of Glasgow.
