This role within Westlakes Recruit focuses on providing expert guidance in Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) matters, reporting directly to the Strategic Markets Operations Director and functionally to the Head of HSE for Decommissioning and Regeneration Solutions.

The successful candidate will deliver HSE leadership and strategic advice on all HSE-related concerns, aligning with the business objectives of the Strategic Markets sector.


The HSE Compliance Specialist will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure adherence to Nuclear, Radiological, and conventional safety regulations, as well as industry best practices.


This position necessitates travel to various business and project sites within the Strategic Markets sector.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer proficient HSE and Radiological guidance while actively promoting the implementation of a safety-first culture.
  • Facilitate the execution of legal obligations and HSE standards in partnership with project and business management.
  • Maintain a proactive stance on nuclear, radiological, conventional, and environmental safety at all times.
  • Advise and assist office, laboratory, site, and project teams in hazard identification, development, and execution of safe work systems and risk assessments.
  • Oversee compliance with HSE standards, including conducting scheduled field inspections, reporting at operational project reviews, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Lead HSE communication meetings with senior management, supply chain partners, contractors, and joint HSE committees, and participate in client safety discussions as necessary.
  • Support the investigation of incidents to identify root causes and recommend preventive measures.
  • Provide guidance to ensure that construction activities comply with CDM regulations.
  • Regularly visit off-site offices and project activities to ensure the integration of HS&E procedures.
  • Develop and submit responses for bids and tenders, while monitoring HSE compliance within the supply chain.

Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations and their implementation.
  • Proficient in the application of UK HSE and CDM Regulations.
  • Experience in a highly regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards and best practices.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent degree.
  • Membership in IEMA, such as PIEMA, and relevant environmental training or progress towards it.
  • Relevant experience in an engineering or construction setting.
