Your Role: DMU Fleet Engineer

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced DMU Fleet Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our Class 175 Diesel Multiple Unit fleet.

  • Lead Engineering Activities: You will be responsible for overseeing all engineering aspects related to the Class 175 DMU fleet, including technical specifications, safety protocols, and performance monitoring.
  • Support Fleet Introduction: Assist depot teams in implementing new processes and systems for the successful introduction of this new fleet into service.
  • Safety & Performance Management: Manage technical engineering, safety compliance, change management, and performance improvement initiatives to ensure optimal fleet operation.
  • Collaboration & Liaison: Work closely with vehicle owners, design authorities, and internal teams to ensure adherence to lease agreements and best practices for GWR and its customers.
  • Industry Representation: Represent FirstGroup at relevant industry forums and contribute to the advancement of rail engineering standards.

Your Skills & Experience:

  • Proven technical background in railway T&RS for a minimum of five years.
  • Chartered Engineer status or qualifications leading to chartered status. Minimum requirement of a qualified technician in railway T&RS maintenance and repair, having served a recognized engineering apprenticeship or qualified to NVQ level 3 in engineering competencies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead both teams and inter-directorate collaborations to identify and resolve safety issues and develop reliability improvement plans.
  • Flexibility to work independently and as part of a team. Willingness to travel for business purposes.
