Key Responsibilities

Serve as a key member of the Planned Community Therapy Leadership Team, offering specialized professional oversight and mentorship for Speech and Language Therapists within the unit. Deliver advanced assessments, treatments, and follow-ups for patients referred to our service with needs related to speech, language, communication, and swallowing. This will primarily involve patients in their residences, but may also include clinic and other environments. Provide expert consultation and support to patients, caregivers, and health and social care professionals from various internal and external organizations. Participate in identifying service gaps and contribute to service enhancements to align with national and local strategies. Assist in service development and achieving Key Performance Indicators. Support and promote the professional growth of staff within the service and across Integrated Community Services as necessary.

Job Duties

Planning and Organizational Skills

Assume clinical responsibility for a designated adult caseload and manage it effectively and efficiently, considering clinical priorities and available time, while delegating tasks appropriately within the team.

Oversee multiple patients simultaneously, including organizing goal-setting and reviews; ensuring effective communication of information among all involved clinicians as necessary.

Coordinate all facets of Speech and Language patient care with external agencies, patients, and caregivers as required.

Adapt to the demands of the work environment, including unpredictable work patterns, deadlines, and frequent interruptions.

Physical Skills

Proficient in using a keyboard for producing electronically formatted documents.

Skilled in delivering physical interventions in accordance with speech and language therapy assessments and treatments, demonstrating advanced dexterity, coordination, and palpatory skills for assessment and manual treatment.

Capable of performing basic life support in emergency situations when necessary.

Possess physical coordination, strength, and an understanding of sensory skills, body movements, and the ability to work with clients in tasks used for assessments and/or skill development.

Equipped with moving and handling skills to assist, position, and treat patients with physical and cognitive challenges.
