Overview

Position: Residential Support Assistant (No Personal Care)

Location: Cranborne, Dorset

Compensation: £.-£. per hour

Working Hours: Shifts of hours, from 8am to 8pm, averaging hours per week across 3-4 shifts (including alternate weekends)

No prior experience required – Enhanced rates available for experienced candidates

At Aurora Boveridge College, we provide support to young individuals aged between and who face additional social, emotional, and mental health challenges, assisting them in their journey towards adulthood and facilitating their transition into further education, training, or employment.

We are currently seeking a Residential Support Assistant to aid our students both on-site and in the classroom (with no personal care duties).

Your Responsibilities

After receiving a handover from the night team, you will assist students with their morning routines, ensuring they are prepared for their day at college. This will involve using verbal and visual prompts tailored to each student's needs.

Once at college, you will collaborate with our Teachers and Teaching Assistants, helping students maintain focus and concentration on their tasks while providing emotional support as necessary.

You will also serve as a key point of contact for parents and caregivers, ensuring that all health and medical appointments are attended.

In the evenings, you will engage with students in dinner preparations (again, prompting and motivating rather than performing tasks) and participate in activities chosen by the students.

The essence of this role lies in your ability to engage and motivate students while fostering their independent living skills.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate the following (No experience necessary – we will cover all training costs):

  • A willingness to engage positively and creatively in addressing the needs of our young individuals
  • Capability to support and develop independence skills such as budgeting, shopping, cooking, and housekeeping, as well as facilitating access to the wider community and public transport
  • Ability to encourage and prompt in a constructive manner while providing social and emotional behavioral support
  • A strong understanding of what constitutes "good care" and how to prioritize the young person's needs while empowering them towards independence
  • Due to our rural setting, access to transportation and a valid driver's license is essential
  • All applicants must be aged and over, given the age of our students
