About the Role

The primary objective of the Bid team is to oversee the preparation and submission of proposals and bids that align with the strategic goals of the organization, enhancing Connected Places Catapult's (the Catapult) prospects of securing projects. All initiatives undertaken are anticipated to positively impact the UK economy through job creation and increased revenue for UK PLC.

The Bid team comprises Senior Bid Managers, Bid Managers, and Bid Coordinators, and plays a crucial role in supporting the broader Catapult by managing all facets of the bidding process for large and intricate proposals across various income categories. They collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to outline strategies for successful bids and work with delivery teams to craft compelling proposals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the bidding process, collaborating with internal stakeholders to define successful bid strategies, win themes, and client requirements.
  • Ensure the seamless management of the entire bidding process, integrating it with other internal systems and processes.
  • Proactively manage the bidding process with documented meetings, decisions, and strategies, ensuring all key stakeholders are aligned and committed to the proposed solutions articulated in our bids/proposals.
  • Lead both external and internal resources to ensure the development, authorization, and timely submission of high-quality, commercially viable, and compliant bids.
  • Collaborate with Business Development, Ecosystem Directors, Strategists, and Programme Directors to cultivate relationships with key external entities, including potential clients, funding organizations, and partners for collaboration.
  • Assist in developing and implementing best practices for bid development, establishing processes, responsibilities for contributors, and creating bid creation tools and templates.
  • Guide external and internal partners in producing technical, commercial, financial, and operational content for submissions.
  • Create, review, and revise bid content as necessary to ensure consistency in alignment, language, format, and approach when multiple parties contribute content.
  • Coordinate with the bidding team to develop accurate and cost-effective resource plans.
  • Ensure compliance with all internal approval and review processes throughout the bid development lifecycle.
  • Document and manage all opportunities and stakeholder engagements within the CRM system.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties to support the Catapult in achieving its strategic objectives and ensuring effective business operations.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external partners to deliver successful bid submissions, engaging multiple stakeholders to shape and finalize proposals.

Requirements

Required Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Demonstrated knowledge in either Commercial or CR&D bids.
  • Experience in leading, delivering, and winning large bids and proposals involving multidisciplinary solutions with commercial clients and/or funding bodies.
  • Proven track record in bid strategy and value proposition development, ensuring client-centric and benefit-led proposals.
  • Strong bid writing capabilities, with the ability to transform technical content into compelling, client-focused proposals.
  • Familiarity with best practices in bidding for either Commercial or CR&D opportunities.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex bids at various stages and competing deadlines simultaneously under pressure.
  • Experience utilizing CRM tools to track and maintain customer engagement activities and revenue opportunities.
  • Confidence in engaging with and challenging senior stakeholders.
  • Proactive and capable of working independently.
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic and collaborative spirit.
  • A genuine interest in sustainability and a desire to make a meaningful impact.

Desirable:

  • APMP or equivalent certification.
