Job Overview

Join our dedicated team within the Specialist Learning Disability Division, where you will work both independently and collaboratively with fellow professionals.

You will manage a clinical caseload, providing a range of assessments and interventions tailored for children and young individuals, either individually or in group settings within the community.

Your role will involve delivering specialized assessments and support within the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) framework, addressing the needs of children and young people facing various challenges, particularly those exhibiting challenging behaviors.

Utilizing a strengths-based methodology, you will ensure clinical effectiveness through evidence-based interventions, collaborative goal-setting, and Routine Outcome Measures.

Main Responsibilities

Offer expert advice and support in Learning Disabilities to other professionals operating within the PBS framework.

Collaborate with the PBS-Team Lead and other key stakeholders to identify and pursue opportunities for service enhancement.

Provide a variety of early intervention strategies across different pathways, focusing on emotional health, communication challenges, and parent support.

Empower individuals and their families to adopt a self-management approach to their health and well-being.

Facilitate specialized workshops on topics such as Understanding Challenging Behaviors.

Supervise and mentor Band 5 Learning Disability Nurses and Band 4 Learning Disability Support Assistants.

Contribute to the training and development of newly qualified staff members.

Participate in student placement provisions.

Advocate for the involvement of service users, ensuring that the voices of children and young people with Learning Disabilities are heard, utilizing adapted communication methods as necessary.

Be prepared to work across various geographical areas to support colleagues based on demand.

Prepare reports that reflect a comprehensive understanding of Positive Behaviour Support, pediatrics, and learning disabilities, ensuring accessibility for both laypersons and professionals.

Contribute to clinical pathways through collaborative discussions regarding patient needs, ensuring coordinated care plans.

Handle initial complaints with sensitivity, aiming to prevent escalation.

Demonstrate effective negotiation skills across various issues.

Maintain empathy and reassurance in all communications.

Communicate effectively with children and young people, employing total communication techniques, sign language, PECS, or other communication aids, and produce accessible reports and letters.

Qualifications

Essential

  • PBS Degree/Diploma or ABA completed or in progress
  • Experience in Learning Disabilities
  • Experience in conducting functional assessments to inform Positive Behaviour Support plans
  • Strong knowledge of the PBS framework/model

Desirable

  • Teaching/training experience
  • Knowledge and evidence of implementing therapeutic assessments and interventions relevant to children and young people
  • Experience in developing resources to support positive behavioral changes
  • Experience in partnership working
