Job Title: Senior Packaging Technologist

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Packaging Technologist to join our R&D function and specialize in delivering Packaging Innovation activity.

About the Role: As a Senior Packaging Technologist, you will be responsible for delivering the feasibility assessment, risk management, planning, and implementation of Innovation projects from design concept through to product launch. You will work closely with our Procurement, Production, and Marketing teams to provide innovative and sustainable solutions to our brands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide functional expertise to projects in our Stage & Gate process.
  • Develop technical solutions that deliver against opportunities identified through our Innovation Strategy.
  • Sit on and contribute to business forums that drive the integrated agenda for innovation and growth.
  • Owning the specifications for new packaging materials and their application in finished products.
  • Being commercially aware and identifying commercially feasible solutions that deliver on the brief.

Requirements:

  • Education to degree level or equivalent, in Packaging, Science, or Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of post-graduate experience in a packaging team within a FMCG business.
  • Experience of leading and working in cross-functional project teams is essential.
  • A passion for innovation, consumer experience, and brand building with practical knowledge of sustainable packaging solutions.
  • A sound knowledge of packaging material manufacture, liquid filling technologies, bottle labelling, multipacking, and palletisation within the drinks industry.
  • Knowledge and operation of GFSI, BRC, HACCP, and other quality management systems is essential.
  • Ability to assess and manage technical risks, develop a trials program, and put in place packaging specifications.
  • Experience in understanding consumer preference via consumer research and the ability to translate this into winning product solutions.
