Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Driver/Porter at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability. As a key member of our Portering and Transport Services Department, you will play a vital role in supporting the care and well-being of our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transport patients safely and efficiently to various destinations, including appointments, home, and other hospital departments.
  • Provide a high-quality portering service to all wards and departments, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of patients, equipment, and supplies.
  • Operate and maintain hospital vehicles, including cleaning and maintaining them to a high standard.
  • Deliver gas cylinders to patient areas as required and remove rubbish, clinical waste, and recycling material from the hospital.
  • Collect and deliver equipment, stores, and furniture, as well as post, to various areas of the hospital.
  • Participate in the Minibus and Driver Awareness Scheme (MIDAS) and maintain a high level of driving competence.
  • Work collaboratively with the Portering and Transport Supervisor and other team members to ensure the smooth operation of the department.
  • Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, including mandatory training and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Report any accidents, near misses, or unsafe situations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Treat patients, visitors, and staff with dignity and respect at all times.
Requirements
  • Able to contribute to the Portering Services department/organisational aims and objectives.
  • Hold a full and clean driving license with D1.
  • Able to engage with the RHN IPR process to identify personal and development training needs.
  • Able to conduct oneself in a professional manner towards all service users and management.
  • Understand the importance of ensuring confidentiality at all times in accordance with data protection, hospital policy, and good practice.
  • Be reliable, willing, and conscientious, with the ability to work flexibly either individually or as part of a team.
  • Have excellent customer service skills, with good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be punctual and a good timekeeper.
  • Be able to problem-solve with support and use own initiative.
  • Have the ability to be reflective and self-critical, and be able to take constructive criticism positively.
  • Be able to read and understand to the required standard.
Working Arrangements
  • Work 39 hours a week on a flexible roster, including weekends and bank holidays as required.
