Halifax Estates is responsible for a diverse range of properties, including:

  • Two main residences
  • 40 agricultural properties
  • 140 residential homes and cottages

  • A thoroughbred breeding facility

  • Various commercial establishments, including a local pub

The Estate Office, which oversees Halifax Estates and other properties owned by the Halifax family, is located in Bugthorpe. The team consists of 41 staff members, including a dedicated Works Department with 11 skilled tradespeople.

The Role:

We are seeking a proactive, organized, and experienced professional to join our team as an Assistant Buildings Manager. The successful candidate will support the Buildings Manager in managing maintenance tasks and enhancement projects across our varied property portfolio.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Buildings Manager in the operations of the Works Department
  • Supervising repairs and enhancement initiatives on the Estate, including contractor work
  • Ensuring project delivery within set timelines and budget constraints
  • Assisting in the preparation of work schedules, tender documents, and obtaining quotes
  • Implementing Health & Safety and CDM compliance within the Buildings Department
  • Contributing to the preparation of annual budgets and monitoring expenditures
  • Creating property Condition Records and Dilapidation schedules
  • Coordinating with stakeholders, local authorities, and securing necessary external approvals for projects
  • Providing updates to the Estate's owners and Management Team regarding project progress

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Strong understanding of building regulations and compliance
  • Experience with various building types, from modern agricultural structures to historical properties
  • Proven track record of delivering projects on schedule and within budget
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small team
  • Flexible approach to working hours and responsibilities
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Integrity, enthusiasm, and a strong work ethic
  • Solid knowledge of Health and Safety and CDM regulations
  • Proficient in IT, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, and ideally CAD
  • Valid UK Driving License

Preferred Qualifications:

One of the following qualifications or equivalent is desirable:

  • HND/HNC in Architectural Technology
  • HND/HNC in Construction Management

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Accommodation is included as part of the remuneration package, along with a company vehicle.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join the Estate's pension scheme, with the employer contributing 6% of the salary.

Standard working hours are from 8 am to 5:15 pm, Monday to Friday, with a one-hour lunch break. Flexibility may be required during peak periods, and the successful candidate will be expected to respond to emergency call-outs as needed.

Annual leave entitlement is 29 working days, inclusive of Public Holidays.

The successful candidate will be expected to commence work promptly.
