The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Cardiac Surgeon to join our expanding aortic programme. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality adult cardiac services, including approximately 900-1,000 cases per annum and thoracic workload of up to 500 cases per annum.
Key Responsibilities- Provide a service in Cardiothoracic Surgery with responsibility for adult cardiac surgery, in conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues.
- Participate in the out-of-hours On-Call service for the department, including being on-call for telephone advice and major incidents.
- Provide cover for Consultant and Senior colleagues in respect of periods of leave.
- Take part in medical audit and research as appropriate, in conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues.
- Ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met, in conjunction with Consultant colleagues.
- Ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.
- Play a full part in the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff, in conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues.
- Take responsibility for and devote time to teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required for junior medical staff.
- Take an active role in the management of the Division, in conjunction with Divisional Manager, Consultant and Senior Colleagues.
- Play a full part in developing and implementing new ways of working in line with modernisation principles and fit for the future, in conjunction with the Divisional Manager, Consultant & Senior colleagues.
- Take responsibility for the best use of departmental staffing and other resources to ensure the maximum efficiency of the department, in conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues.
- Observe the Trust's agreed policies and procedures, in particular in relation to managing staff, and follow the Trust's Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions.
- Ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met, in conjunction with Consultant colleagues.
- Take responsibility for your own Health & Safety, complying with any safe working arrangements, policies and procedures which are in place.
- Accept a duty to other staff and patients to ensure that any hazards are reported and managed appropriately.
