About the Role
The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Cardiac Surgeon to join our expanding aortic programme. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality adult cardiac services, including approximately 900-1,000 cases per annum and thoracic workload of up to 500 cases per annum.
Main Responsibilities
As a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon, you will be expected to:
- Provide a service in Cardiothoracic Surgery with responsibility for adult cardiac surgery.
- Participate in the out-of-hours On-Call service for the department, including being on-call for telephone advice and major incidents.
- Provide cover for Consultant and Senior colleagues in respect of periods of leave.
- Take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.
- Ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.
- Ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.
Junior Medical Staff
You will also be responsible for:
- Playing a full part in the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
- Taking responsibility for and devoting time to teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required for junior medical staff.
Management & Service Development
In addition, you will:
- Take an active role in the management of the Division, in conjunction with the Divisional Manager and Consultant and Senior Colleagues.
- Play a full part in developing and implementing new ways of working in line with modernisation principles and fit for the future.
- Take responsibility for the best use of departmental staffing and other resources to ensure the maximum efficiency of the department.
Clinical Governance
You will ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met, in conjunction with Consultant colleagues.
Health & Safety
You will take responsibility for your own Health & Safety, complying with any safe working arrangements, policies and procedures which are in place.
