Overview

We are thrilled to present an opportunity for a Garden Care Professional to become part of our dedicated team.

In this hands-on role, you will play a vital part in ensuring that the gardens are kept in pristine condition, collaborating with a passionate and knowledgeable horticultural team.

It is important to consider your transportation options to reach our rural location before applying for this position.



Work Environment

As a member of our team, you will report to one of our Senior Gardeners and work alongside 10 other skilled Gardeners, supported by a group of 75 volunteers. Your schedule will consist of 4 days per week, from early morning until late afternoon.

Our estate features a stunning Italianate mansion and a picturesque riverside, attracting visitors throughout the year. The expansive 375-acre grounds provide a variety of tasks, including recent conservation projects in our Water Garden and Long Garden. Our team is a close-knit community, fostering a friendly atmosphere.

With impressive formal gardens, seasonal bedding displays, and a serene Rose Garden, there is always something to engage with.



Key Responsibilities

Your role will encompass a variety of practical horticultural activities aimed at developing, enhancing, and preserving the garden. This includes:

  • Engaging in both hard and soft landscaping initiatives.
  • Performing general garden upkeep, including mulching, pruning, leaf clearing, and weeding.
  • Utilizing machinery such as hedge cutters, leaf blowers, lawnmowers, and tractors.

You will assist in the planting and maintenance of a diverse range of flora, including trees, shrubs, and seasonal bedding plants. Your responsibilities will also involve hedge trimming and lawn care, ensuring that the gardens meet the highest standards for our visitors.

Additionally, you will support our garden volunteers, helping them maximize their contributions, and interact with the public by answering inquiries and assisting with workshops, tours, and events as needed.



Candidate Profile

To excel in this position, you should possess the following qualifications:

  • Professional training as a gardener or horticulturalist, complemented by practical experience and a solid understanding of plant care.
  • RHS Level 2 or an equivalent qualification or relevant experience.
  • Confidence in participating in garden-related activities and events.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining gardening machinery, including tractors and hedge cutters, with appropriate health and safety certifications.
