Role Significance

The Commercial division is integral to Sainsbury's, where we envision, create, plan, and procure the products our customers cherish. This is where our buying, merchandising, and quality assurance teams collaborate with specialists focused on various aspects such as pricing, promotions, and brand management. Within Sainsbury's Tech – Commercial General Merchandise (GM), we deliver the technology and data that empower our commercial teams with leading decision-making and execution capabilities.

As a Senior Product Manager in Commercial GM, you will collaborate with multiple teams across commercial, digital, supply chain, logistics, and retail sectors to drive key strategic initiatives by developing products that improve customer experiences and enhance the efficiency of our commercial operations.

You will be instrumental in shaping our Commercial technology to align with our strategic vision of "More Argos, More Often," creating and refining products that support innovative propositions, providing our customers with unmatched choice and value in their shopping journeys across our GM brands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and manage both new and existing Commercial GM products, guided by our dynamic strategic roadmap.
  • Collaborate with commercial and technical stakeholders to communicate and realize our vision; influence development direction, engage with senior leadership, and work closely with various teams to prioritize activities aligned with product goals and metrics.
  • Lead an agile engineering team in partnership with an Engineering Manager to drive the Commercial GM roadmap and development; regularly update on progress, proactively manage risks and issues to eliminate obstacles, and prioritize and coordinate the resolution of production challenges.
  • Ensure alignment with other product teams and experience design to develop and launch new products while continuously enhancing customer experience.
  • Maintain awareness of market trends and the evolving technological landscape, articulating the business benefits of both current and potential products, while tracking effort and value delivery to identify opportunities for cost savings and quality enhancements.
  • Collaborate with third-party software partners on build and buy initiatives, in addition to leveraging our in-house development capabilities.

Candidate Profile

  • Strong understanding of the retail business and technology landscape, with a focus on maximizing the value of commercial products.
  • Proficient in Agile delivery and modern engineering practices.
  • Familiarity with product development principles and methodologies.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset, coupled with determination and enthusiasm for driving change through technology and people.
  • Ability to make informed decisions in complex and fast-paced environments, navigating ambiguity effectively.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and a passion for delivering impactful change.
  • High level of collaboration, actively seeking opportunities to contribute across teams and areas of focus.
