Position Overview: Assistant Professor of Vocal Studies

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts/Division of Music is inviting applications for a tenure-track role as an Assistant Professor specializing in Vocal Studies. This position offers the chance to educate both undergraduate and graduate students in voice, while also mentoring aspiring musicians. The ideal candidate will engage in high-quality instruction, contribute to scholarly research, and participate actively in departmental and community service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruct voice majors and minors, alongside other designated courses for both undergraduate and graduate students, while providing mentorship and guidance.
  • Uphold standards of excellence in teaching, engage in scholarly activities, and contribute to service within the department and the broader community.
  • Exhibit outstanding communication skills and interpersonal abilities, coupled with a strong sense of personal integrity.
  • Commit to mentoring students to prepare them for advanced studies and professional careers in music.

Required Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree in voice is essential at the time of application.
  • A strong commitment to teaching excellence, scholarly research, and community service.
  • Prior teaching experience in voice is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in teaching courses such as Vocal Pedagogy, Opera, and Language Diction.
  • One to three years of experience in higher education teaching.
  • Knowledge of or experience with African-American music traditions.
  • Familiarity with online educational platforms (e.g., Blackboard and Canvas).
